The Karnataka Tourism Department is considering creating a new online platform, 'Namma Guide', to develop the state tourism sector and provide world-class facilities to tourists, officials said on Tuesday.
The services of local guides will provide accurate information about the history, culture, and significance of the respective areas to domestic and international tourists visiting any tourist destination in the state, they said. According to officials, the department will create a new dedicated website and mobile application.
“The role of our local guides is paramount in elevating the State's tourism to international standards. Modelled after foreign systems, the 'Namma Guide' website and app will be developed to enable tourists in our state to access guide services easily and transparently," Tourism Minister KJ George stated.
Additionally, this initiative will generate more employment opportunities for the guides already registered with the Department of Tourism, officials said.
To realise this project swiftly, the Department said that it is taking necessary steps to invite tech-savvy organisations, including startups within the State, to participate in its development.
George added that beyond improving tourist experience, the initiative would also strengthen the upkeep and cleanliness of historical and natural sites.
